To sauce or not to sauce? This is a common question/debate in the world of Barbeque. If you are going dark side or should I say the saucy side, the BBQ sauce aisle at the grocery store is always a fun adventure. Today, I saw a few new additions to the shelves at H-E-B which you may want to check out.
Duke’s is famous for having the best Southern Mayonnaise in the condiment biz and I bet that makes a great base ingredient for these three Southern Sauce selections.
Herb From The Curb is the gourmet BBQ sauce line of Watts Foods. Watts Foods focuses on providing high quality, flavor-filled, healthy options to your favorite outdoor entertainment products. Founders and spouses, Herb and De Havalan Watts pride themselves on creating products you can count on and use with your favorite recipes.
Herb From The Curb originated from a love of good food; but let’s start from the very beginning.
Herb and De Havalan were elementary school friends. As Herb would say, “I always liked her.” De Havalan was a tom-boy, that could keep-up with the boys and hold her own, and gave Herb a run-for-his-money. Over the years, Herb remained smitten with De Havalan and the two would go on to get married and build a beautiful family, adding children Herbert III (Tré) and De Havalan II to their home.
Herb’s career took him from serving in the Army, to working for H-E-B in their local warehouse, to working for Southwest Airlines as a Sky Cap. Family was always top priority for the Watts, so when it came to De Havalan’s career, it was important that being available for their children was prioritized. They both had a love of food, and were often told that they should share their delicious food with the community. It was a no-brainer when the Watts BBQ Stand was established and the community agreed!
The BBQ stand was successful, which was great; however, began to pull De Havalan away from her children and their activities. They made the hard decision to close the stand; but was encouraged to turn their signature sauce into an option that their customers could still enjoy.
To the Watts’ surprise, their sauce was already ready to be put on shelves (in the food industry terms, it was already made with a good shelf-life). And the journey began to bringing products to you!
At this time, Herb was working for Southwest airlines and BAM, the sauce name was created, Herb From The Curb.
Through De Havalan’s hard work in the kitchen and Herb’s vibrant personality at the curb – the sauces ended up in the hands of H-E-B product managers and onto shelves in January 2021!

Pinkerton’s Barbecue was selected by Texas Monthly as one of the Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas for 2021 and it was sure sweet to see their original BBQ sauce now available at my local H-E-B.
