Southern Smoke: Bison 10-30-22

I was in downtown San Angelo shooting a couple’s engagement photos when we came upon on Southern Smoke’s pit “Bison.” I had a total fanboy moment and had to snap a few quick shots of the beastly smoker before we continued along on our shoot.

Southern Smoke was recently featured in Texas Monthly and brings its much needed new Q to Angelo. I am looking forward to seeing what Southern Smoke and “Bison” can do in the San Angelo barbecue game.

UFC 280 Smoking Session 10-21-22 to 10-22-22

UFC 280 Oliveira vs Makhachev is in Abu Dhabi so it is a early morning start time for the fights Saturday. Thus we decided to get our smoking session in by starting up late Friday night. Ten pound beef brisket and almost nine pound pork butt are the featured meats on our menu today but definitely not the only ones to smoke.

Westlake Ace Hardware in San Angelo, TX 10-22-22

I had to make a pellet run to Westlake Hardware in the middle of my smoking session for my pork butt today. The pellet of choice for me is Traeger Meat Church Pellet Blend Pellets. I love the Oak and Hickory blend. It is so versatile with the ability to make beef or pork into elite smoked meats.

But you can’t make a run to Westlake without looking in the amazing BBQ area that makes dreams come true for lovers of the Q. I started to form my Christmas Wish List as I strolled through the aisles. Grill Mat? Check. Meater Plus Wireless Meat Thermometer? Check. Traeger/Dickie’s Hat? Check.

Blues Hog has been on MyBBQJourney’s radar since seeing their World Championship win on BBQ USA. I am looking forward to trying their extensive line out and see what it can add to my BBQ world.

One thing I do know for sure. Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce has given my BBQ a bit of Asian fusion to my pork ribs and I would recommend giving it a try. Bachan’s is a quality barbecue sauce made from a family recipe with love. How can you go wrong?

Last but definitely not least. Meat Church BBQ Texas Sugar BBQ Rub is now on the shelf of my local Ace Hardware store here at Westlake Hardware. Nice to see the new sweetness since my first bottle is dangerously close to being empty. Thank you to Matt Pittman and the crew at Meat Church.

I always love a trip to the meat market and today was no different. We ventured over to La Azteca Meat Market to pick up Carne De Puerco Al Pastor/Marinated Pork For Tacos. If you love tacos and especially Tacos Al Pastor like we do, La Azteca is where you should be going for the marinated meat to create them.
